Plants That Are Poisonous to Dogs
Everyone enjoys decorating their home, in and out with a variety of beautiful plants. Not only do flowers give your home a welcoming feeling but also fill the air with pleasant scents. However if you have a pup  at home you must be very careful on which plants you purchase or grow because many of them are highly poisonous to Fido.

Common Poisonous Plants

  • Autumn Crocus
  • Azalea
  • Daffodil
  • Dieffenbachia aka Dumb Cane
  • Tulip
  • Kalanchoe aka Mother-in-law Plant
  • Sago Palm
  • Oleander
  • Cyclamen
  • Amaryllis

 

Common Symptoms

Autumn Crocus:

  • Intense burning around the mouth
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Liver, Heart, and Kidney issues
  • Seizures
  • The entire plant is toxic, however the bulbs are the most toxic

Azalea:

  • Oral irritation
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Drop in blood pressure (severe case)
  • Coma (severe case)
  • Death (severe case)

Daffodil:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Drop in blood pressure
  • Abdominal pain
  • Convulsions
  • The entire plant is poisonous but the bulb is the most toxic

Dieffenbachia aka Dumb Cane:

  • Burning sensation in and around the mouth
  • Vomiting
  • Problems swallowing
  • Oral irritation

Tulip:

  • Excessive drooling
  • Ingestion
  • Oral irritation
  • Nausea
  • Bulb is most toxic

Kalanchoe aka Mother-in-law Plant:

  •  Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Heart problems

Sago Palm:

  • Bloody vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Liver failure
  • Death

Oleander:

  •  Fatal heart problems
  • Muscle tremors
  • Incoordination
  • Bloody diarrhea

Cyclamen:

  • Oral irritation
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Seizures
  • Death

Amaryllis:

  • Depression
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Hyper salivation
  • Anorexia
  • Tremors
