Cat Bless you: Reverse Sneezing

by Twila on January 26, 2016

What is reverse sneezing?

Is a cat’s reflex of getting air in their body’s to remove any debris from the upper area of the nose. This is totally different from regular sneezing in that it is a normal activity of expelling air.

Symptoms

  • Backward head motion
  • Closed mouth
  • Inward lips

Possible Causes

  • Bronchial infections
  • Foreign matter
  • Mucus
  • Inflammation
  • Nasal dripping
  • Mites in nasal cavity
  • Nasal tumor

Treatment

Usually once the debris has been removed the reverse sneezing stops. There aren’t any specific medications for the sneezing in general but if it is linked to another illness it can be treated. Consult with your vet to plan out a strategy  to help your fur baby.
